I have to admit, during the winter, I am quite similar to a bear.
I hibernate. I cozy up on the couch, sip hot chocolate and eat hearty food (and way too much of it, by the way). I love my hibernating season, but everything has its time and place. The winter weather is behind us (well, for most of the country), and the days are getting longer and brighter. I think it’s time to celebrate!
Host a spring soiree using all things spring…Spring flowers, seasonal food and even Spring party favors! It’s time to take off the parka and get outside – Spring has Sprung!
Spring Flowers and Décor
I don’t know about you, but the first thing that comes to my mind when I think of spring is tulips! Whether they are in my neighbor’s yard or in the grocery store parking lot, tulips are popping up all over town! I purchased a bunch of tulips today for $4.99, and my casa already feels cheerier. Stick your tulips in an existing bouquet or curve them around in a round vase filled with water for a unique presentation. However you display these delightful buds, you can’t go wrong.
Switch out your heavy winter tablecloths and napkins for bright colors and pastels. Put away your brown pillar candles and use pink candles – it’s spring time baby!
Spring Time Food
After hibernating with bowls of chili and heavy stews, I’m ready for light, flavorful and FRESH meals using local spring produce. Use fresh spring asparagus in a savory quiche – make bite sized quiche for easy serving by using pre-made phyllo dough cups! Incorporate your spring vegetables in a light risotto for an easy and filling entrée dish.
Make a spring cocktail such as spiked pink lemonade and serve it with a wedge of fresh pineapple for a pretty presentation.
Finish up with something sweet by using delicious berries such as blueberries and strawberries. Make strawberry shortcake with deliciously light and fluffy angel food cake, or make individual parfaits for your guests using yogurt, granola and a little dark chocolate. Heart healthy and adorable!
Something to take home
Send your guests home with seedling packets, found at most home and garden stores. Tie a few packets together with pretty ribbon to get your guests in the mood for planting season!
The winter doldrums are over people…put away your snow shovels and get out your bathing suits! Okay, it’s not quite bathing suit season, yet, but it’s getting there!
