While appetizers can be all cute and dainty, some times I like serving one that has a little umph!
One of my favorite party staples is a buffalo chicken dip recipe. Served with a chicken-flavored cracker, it’s one that I never see leftover at the end of the night. But I always hated the way people had to awkwardly balance their plates and cups while trying to scoop a little deliciousness into their mouths. Then it hit me! Put the dip in a pastry and — wonder twins activate — you’ve got yourself an appetizer that will work with you and your social grace. That’s how I came up with, what I like to call, Chicken In a Basket.
Now, I won’t lie, it does get a little messy but it’s still easy to make. First you want to make your buffalo chicken dip of chicken, cream and blue cheese, ranch dressing and buffalo wing sauce. Next you’ll need to separate out your Pillsbury® crescent rolls into their individual triangles.
Take 1 crescent roll triangle and fill with about 1 tbsp of the chicken mixture at the base of the triangle. Fold the longest piece up over the middle.
Take one of the remaining shorter ends and fold over, pinching up the sides to seal. Repeat with the other side. Continue to pinch the dough until it forms a “basket” around the mixture.
Once you have all your baskets made, Bake in oven for 15 to 20 or until crescent is a golden brown color. Remove and let sit for about 5 minutes before serving. They will be warm, gooey and delicious for your guests.
And there you have it, a chick-a-lickin’ good appetizer! Enjoy.
