Whether you’re headed to the stadium or manning the couch, football season has arrived.
Tailgating is the ultimate pre-game party, so I thought I’d share some food and party décor ideas to get you pumped up for the big game!
Green your table (or your actual tailgate, parked in your driveway!) by covering it with inexpensive AstroTurf to resemble a field. Use white masking or painter’s tape to create the field lines. Your guests will “ooh and aah” at how creative you are, and it only takes a quick trip to the hardware store!
A few simple decorations can take your tailgate from the sidelines to the winner’s circle! Use inexpensive mini footballs throughout your food display to add a festive touch. Add cheer horns throughout the table for an extra party element. Make a simple football banner to hang on the party table. Don’t have team cups? No problem! Print “GO TEAM” or your saying of choice on round stickers and adhere these to plastic cups and plates.
Fill up the hungry fans with Cocktails Sausages in Crimson Sauce, Burger Bites, and Hot + Spicy Chicken Wings! You’ll find more awesome game day picks on Tablespoon’s Game Day Appetizer Recipe Collection. Remember that mini or handheld foods are easier on your guests at a tailgate party. Keep utensils to a minimum, and you’ll also have less trash to deal with.
We all know it’s not a party without some sweet treats. Whip up some Football Sugar Cookies or Touchdown Brownies! Can you say “score”?! To really wow your guests, make Chocolate-Covered Strawberry Footballs! They’re really easy to make. The full recipe is featured below, but simply melt semi-sweet chocolate chips in glass bowl and dip strawberries fully. Place on wax paper and let cool. Melt white chocolate in microwave, letting it cool for 2 minutes. Pour in plastic sandwich bag, cut tiny hole in corner of bag and pipe football pattern on chocolate-covered strawberries.
It’s not a tailgate without some refreshing pre-game beverages! Serve up a signature cocktail in your team’s colors. Cheering in red? Whip up a batch of Bloody Marys for those early games. Cheering in blue? Serve this Royal Blue Cocktail. You get the idea. Incorporate your team’s colors to make the tailgate a hit.
