I tried tinting bamboo skewers (from Party City) following your instructions and it didn’t take. Then I realized bamboo is grass, not wood!

Oh, and the amount of water was just enough to barely cover the skewers, I’m guessing it was about a cup or a cup and a half. The dish I soaked them in is a tiny little baking dish.

Hi All, first, regarding the skewers, yes, you need to be careful when handling them, or risk pink fingers. I used a healthy dose of food coloring, handled the skewers with a kitchen tongs. I left them in for maybe an hour. The color seemed to take really quickly …. maybe it was the flimsy grade of skewers I used? XO M.

Will the dye from the skewers come off on your hands? I have really warm hands (always) and would be afraid they would turn pink.

You can also use non dairy coffee creamer in place of the frosting. Lots of flavors to choose from!

@ Anonymous below : You crumble the cupcakes/cakes up — you can do it by hand or with a mixer, you add frosting ( can take from half a can to a full can of frosting–depends on how much cake you have.. add little by little ) ’til you get the right consistency. You don’t want the “dough” you’ve made to be dry or very sticky.

You then start forming the cake balls– it’s up to you on how big you want them. You can do this by hand or with a cookie scoop. You can get more tips on : http://www.bakerella.com/ … hope this helps! Good luck! :)
