Parlez- vous Francais? Oui? No? Either way, it’s about that time to get your French on for Bastille Day!
So Ooh la, la and all that jazz, let’s celebrate! That’s a definite Oui!
Here’s a little history so you know WHY you’re celebrating…Bastille Day is celebrated on July 14 th of each year and marks the historical day when troops stormed the French prison in 1789 during the French Revolution. If you want be down with the locals, it’s known as La Fête Nationale (The National Celebration) in France.
Lucky for us Americans, the French flag shares the same colors as ours, so we can look forward to another red, white and blue celebration this summer! Another thing we’re super lucky to have is a sweet list of American classics that have been given a “French Spin.” Bastille Day here we come!
Crepes
Americans have been rocking this French food for years, and whether it’s a sweet treat or a savory delight you’re into, crepes are a perfect party food!
Go crepe crazy and serve these Savory Shrimp Crepes for dinner followed by Strawberry Banana Crepes for a sweet dessert!
It’s Macarons, not Macaroons!
Often confused with their coconut-name twins, macarons are a colorful and delicate French cookie…or is it a pastry? Whatever it is, it’s beautiful and lovely and makes me want to hop on a plane to Paris to stare at them through the café windows. Oh, and eat one in every color of the rainbow, of course.
Macarons are challenging to make, so check out these worthy imitation Cupcake Poppers that look very close to these delicious French treats but definitely don’t take all that precious time!
French Bread and Nicoise Salad
When I think of France, I think of baguettes. Doesn’t every French citizen carry around a baguette with them at all times? How about the delicious Nicoise Salad that’s made its way to the States. Let’s complement it with an American staple – le pizza. Check out this delectable combination!
Fancy Grilled Cheese aka Croque Monsieur
Grilled cheese is undoubtedly an American Classic, and happens to be one of my favorites. So why not add fancier cheese and some ham to make it a filling yet fancier sandwich! Along comes my Croque Monsiuer Sandwich (aka fancy grilled cheese with ham).
Be a real Francophile by adding your very own French flag sandwich picks, courtesy of this website. You can check out my full recipe below!
