You’re gearing up for a little get together and you really want to impress your guests – mix it up with some pop culture concoctions.
Well – instead of reaching for the usual beer brands – why don’t you whip out the Butterbeer. Whaaaa?
Yep, that’s a fictional brand, but one easy way to get the conversation going is to offer your version of a favorite pretend foodstuff. Take a look below for some food ideas from your favorite books, TV shows and movies and see how you can create an “IRL” version for your next shindig.
Butterbeer
Of course we’d all love to knock back a few of the magical brews that were made famous by a certain boy wizard and his compatriots. Unless you have a ticket for the Hogwarts Express, it’s unlikely that you’ll be able to find these at your local store. No worries! Use this Butterbeer recipe to replicate Harry and friend’s favorite fizzy brew – there’s no alcohol in it but if you want to spice it up, just add a shot or two of rum and get going.
The Big Kahuna Burger
When you’re throwing a party for your cool friends that like to wear black suits and skinny ties, bring over a bag of Big Kahuna burgers. This burger was made famous by the characters of Pulp Fiction and it has popped up in other movies by Tarantino. Though you can’t go through the drive through and order a few patties, it’s easy to make your burger into something a surfer dude would enjoy. Check out this recipe for a grilled chipotle burger with a secret ingredient: guacamole.
Krabby Patties
If you’re having a Sponge Bob-themed party for your kids (or for adults – there’s a lot to like about those square pants for all ages), skip your regular burgers and make some Krabby Patties. Sponge Bob and Squidworth can knock a few of these things back and it’s totally easy to make this fiction into a reality. Just cook up some of these crab cakes and put them on a hamburger bun! Or check out this recipe for crab and tuna burgers and dish them out to your guests (you can also let them know that wearing square pants is, thankfully, optional).
True Blood
When you’re watching Sookie, Bill and the rest of them in the fifth season finale on August 26th, you might think that you need a drink. Well, news flash: True Blood actually exists. The folks behind the show made a carbonated beverage with a blood orange base. We whipped up our own version called the Blood Red Sangria Cocktail. It goes great with cocktails or you can just sip on it to further empathize with your favorite vampires or to pass the time until season six.
Duff Beer
Finally, if you want to throw back a few brews Homer Simpson style and you’re the label-making, creative type – pick up your favorite German pilsner and slap on your own labels. You can’t get Moe to pour you one but don’t let that stop you from taking a sip. Just don’t have one too many and turn into a Barney!
