Halloween is possibly the best holiday to throw a party – so don’t be lame, make it a good one!
Halloween parties are the best because they’re devoid of any kind of seriousness, which means that you and your peeps can get crazy and feel good about it. However, that doesn’t mean your bash won’t require a bit of planning and forethought.
Here’s a guide on planning your Halloween party up to a month in advance.

Now is the perfect time to start thinking about decorations, particularly if you plan to get pretty elaborate and DIY.
One idea we’re loving is the bat mobile – and it’s not what you’re thinking. To make this mobile, pick a good sized branch from your backyard, spray paint it black, then hang paper bats from the branches and display it on your porch to greet guests, or in your home.
We’re also pretty mad for old-timey photos made spooky with just a few simple steps. First, make black-and-white photocopies of old family photos, then age them by wiping them down with a tea-soaked sponge. Let them dry before cutting the eyes out and placing LED lights in the holes. Next, you can add fangs, blood, cobwebs and spiders as you please.
We’ve also got some great ideas for stenciled pumpkins and “pickled brains” – not to mention tons of spooky eats – on our Pinterest board, so check it.

It’s menu planning time. First you’ll need to get an idea of how many guests you’ll have, because the size of the guest list may be the main determining factor in whether you serve a one-pot meal, or a four-course dinner.
You should buy any non-perishable ingredients – including liquor, wine and beer – now, especially seasonal stuff that might fly off the shelves. Also, consider that you can make items like lasagna or chili now and freeze them for later.
Want some ideas for killer apps? Try these Deviled Eyes, Breadstick Bones or Toxic Tomatoes. Creepy entrees for your bash include these Crescent Mummy Dogs, Halloween Cheese Pizza and Halloween Madness Chili Bake. For a devilish dessert table, make these Scream! Cheese Swirl Brownies or Creamy Candy Corn Puddings.

Your party is growing nigh, have you thought of a costume in the midst of all of this planning? If not, better get on the good foot and get that done. You can always look to pop culture for ideas. For example, couples could go as Duchess Kate and Prince William. Ladies may opt to go as Katniss Everdeen or pregnant Beyonce as an homage to the past year. Dudes could snag some ladies by going as Ryan Lochte or Charlie Sheen.
Also, you should probably start putting up those decorations, if you haven’t already. It’ll not only knock one more thing off your list, but also get you in the mood for your bash.

It’s getting down to the wire, so make sure you tie up any loose ends when it comes to your costume, décor and shopping list. This is also the perfect time to get a few close friends together for a pre-party pumpkin carving get-together. This will ensure that you have ample unique jack-o-lanterns to line your sidewalk and place throughout your house. Don’t know how to throw a pumpkin carving party? We’ve got you covered.
Now is also the time when you should be making anything that won’t go bad within a couple of days, but save the rest for early on the day of your bash to ensure everything’s super fresh.
The big day
Make those final preparations and enjoy the party!
