Stressed out over whom to vote for on Election Day? Need to unwind after watching all those biting political ads?
Or perhaps you are throwing an election watching party with your friends, or staying in and anxiously staring at the screen while rooting for your party.
There are some easy libations that you can mix up to celebrate political parties — before, on or after November 3rd.
Rooting for team blue? Try the Royal Blue Cocktail. Show your allegiance by picking up a bottle of blue Curacao. The electric hue is an easy way to make any cocktail that uses a clear spirit base glow with the color of your party.
Make an original Donkey cocktail that is a modified blueberry smash with a dab of this spirit to amp up the color. Take a handful of blueberries, put them in a cocktail glass and muddle them with a few mint leaves. Pour in two ounces of vodka, one ounce of St. Germain and one ounce of the blue Curacao. Shake it all up in a shaker and pour it over ice. Add a pour of seltzer on top to help balance the ingredients. Hopefully the coverage will be this balanced on Election Day.

Or if you’re feeling a little red on Election Day, there are plenty of cocktails you can use to show your support for your party. One easy thing to put in your glass is a twist on a classic Americano (show a little patriotism!). The standard version of the cocktail combines two ounces of Campari with two ounces over vermouth over ice. The classic cocktail calls for a splash of soda water, but instead use a pour of Champagne – after all, if your party wins, it will be time for a celebration!
For more team red, reach for an American spirit that hails from a red state. Stick with Bourbon, which comes from the great state of Kentucky. Mix up a classic old-fashioned cocktail like the one in the Modern Old-Fashioned Cocktail and watch those results come in.
Additional red cocktails to show your GOP support:
Celebrate by making a drink that has an independent streak. The U.S. of A. has more independent distillers than ever, and you can pick up a bottle of your favorite spirit from a maker that isn’t beholden to any special interests.
Be an individual and make your own Independent Cocktail with a bottle of white wine, 2 cups of seltzer water and a variety of orange, lemon and apple wedges. Put together and chill for about an hour.
Represent your stance with one of these neutral-colored cocktails:
If you find yourself in the middle of the political spectrum and would vote for either party, go for a red/blue blend = purple cocktail, like the Beliebertini. Or make an original undecided cocktail. Try a label like Brooklyn or Aviation for this ditty that will reflect your moderate stance with a purple hue.
Get the correct shade by mixing one part blue Curacao with one part cranberry juice, and then drop in two parts of your favorite independent gin. Throw in a half an ounce of lemon juice for a tart twist and garnish with a lemon peel. This cocktail has it all – it’s citrus-y and sweet all at the same time, king of like the melting pot that we call home.
Show your indecisiveness with these violet cocktails:
